         From Oct 11st to the 14th, 2012, the 3rd International Cancer Epigenetics Meeting, hosted jointly by General Hospital of PLA and Beijing Jiaotong University, was held at Beijing Xijiao Hotel Conference Center. President Nin Bing attended this conference and representing the University, made an address in the opening ceremony.
This meeting invited the major founder of Epigenetics, Professor James G. Herman, as Honorary President, and Academician Hong Tao, Academician Chen Zhinan as Advisers. Professor He Jinsheng, Vice Dean of College of Life Science and Bioengineering School of Science, Professor Huang Jiaqiang and General Hospital of PLA Professor Guo Mingzhou were mutually responsible for the preparations of the conference.
       Around 40 internationally acclaimed experts from countries and areas such as the United States, Belgium, Holland, Japan, Korea and Hong Kong, and 400 native delegates attended the meeting. The forerunners of Cancer Epigenetics, Johns Hopkins University professor James G. Herman and Nature Genetics magazine executive Editor in Chief Dr. Emily Niemitz were also present. More than ten international and national experts, including Professor James G. Herman, gave reports concerning the change by epigenetics, such as DNA methylation, histone modification, noncoding RNA genomic imprinting, on the occurrence of cancer and triggered wide spread interests and intense resonance among scholars. In the subsequent three days, experts and scholars had various discussion focused on the research and applications of epigenetics on the occurrence, diagnose, prognosis and treatment of cancer.
       The success of holding such a meeting has enormous significance in promoting the development of Biology branch of our university and expanding the influence of Jiaotong University in the realm of epigenetics research.
