Content &Introduction
Dr. George Y. Chen is a post-doctoral research fellow at the Advanced Lasers Laboratory (SPI Lasers) of the Optoelectronics Research Centre (ORC) in the University of Southampton (UoS). He obtained a PhD degree from the UoS in 2013, and completed his Master’s degree at Imperial College London in 2009. His PhD thesis focused on the development of optical microfiber-based sensors for the detection of current, temperature, acceleration and acoustic. Novel sensor heads were designed and implemented that exhibited high sensitivity, high detection bandwidth and ultra-high compactness. He is currently working on a multimode sensing system capable of characterizing active/passive fibers and components for high-power laser applications.
He has authored/co-authored over 24 technical publications, some of which are invited, from journals such as: Optics Letters, Photonics Technology Letters, Optics Communications, Optical Fiber Technology, Electronics Letters, and Open Optics Journal. He has also co-authored a book on optical fiber sensors. He serves as a frequent reviewer of technical journals, including: Optics Letters, Photonics Journal, Photonics Technology Letters, Applied Optics, Sensors and Actuators A: Physical, Optical Fiber Technology, Measurement Science & Technology and Optical Engineering.
